Set delivery charges and product weight
Add the delivery options customers pick at checkout, price them flat or by weight, offer free shipping, and set default product weight and district checkout.
Delivery charges are the delivery options your customers choose from at checkout, such as "Inside Dhaka" and "Outside Dhaka". Each one has its own price: a flat price, or a price that grows with the order's weight. Weight & Defaults sets how product weight is counted and whether checkout asks for the customer's district.
Before you start
- You need the permission Store settings.
- Delivery charges are what the customer pays. Couriers are set up separately, in Delivery Methods. See Connect a courier.
- For weight-based charges, give your products a weight. You set it on the product's edit page, in the Shipping card.
Steps: add a delivery charge
8 steps · ~5 min
Step 1
Go to Settings → Shipping & Delivery → Delivery Charges and click Add Delivery Charge.Step 2
Type a Name customers will see, for example Inside Dhaka.Step 3
Under Pricing, choose Flat price or By weight.Step 4
For Flat price, enter the Price (৳). It is the same for every order.Step 5
For By weight, fill in the rate card (see below). The Example box shows what a few order weights would cost.Step 6
Tick Set as default if this option should be pre-selected for customers at checkout.Step 7
Under Delivers to, choose the districts this option serves. This only matters when Ask for district at checkout is on. That switch is at the top of the Delivery Charges page and is saved as soon as you switch it.Step 8
Click Save.
Customers see the options at checkout in the order of your list. Drag a row by its handle to move it. On a phone, use Move up and Move down in the row's menu. To change the default later, click the star in that option's row (Set as default). The current default shows Default.
Pricing by weight
A weight-based option works like a courier rate card:
- Price and Up to: the charge for an order up to this weight, for example ৳70 up to 1 kg.
- Then add and For every extra: what is added for each extra step of weight, for example ৳20 for every extra 1 kg. Part of a step counts as a full step. Leave Then add empty to keep the same price at any weight.
- Max weight (optional): heavier orders can't pick this option. Leave it empty for no limit.
The order's weight is each product's weight × its quantity. In the list, a weight-based option shows By weight and a price such as "From ৳70".
Free shipping
There are two ways to deliver for free:
- Free for everyone: add a Flat price option with a price of ৳0.
- Free only with a coupon: add an option and tick Free shipping — only with a coupon. It is always free, and hidden at checkout until the customer applies a coupon that has Allow free shipping turned on. When they do, the free option is picked for them.
A coupon-only option shows Coupon only in the list. It can't be the default.
Steps: set weight and checkout defaults
5 steps · ~4 min
Step 1
Go to Settings → Shipping & Delivery → Weight & Defaults.Step 2
Under Product weight, turn on Weight required if every product that ships must have a weight before it can be saved. Digital or service products that don't ship are not affected.Step 3
Enter a Default weight in kg. Any product without a weight counts as this, so a missing weight never counts as 0 kg.Step 4
Under Checkout, turn on Ask for district at checkout if each delivery option should serve only some districts. It is the same setting as the switch at the top of the Delivery Charges page.Step 5
Click Save changes.
Product weight is also used by couriers that have Use order weight turned on in Delivery Methods.
How checkout picks the charge
- If you have no delivery charges, checkout charges nothing for delivery and asks the customer to pick nothing.
- Otherwise, the customer sees your options in your order, with the Default one already picked. If you have no default, the customer must pick one.
- With Ask for district at checkout on, the customer picks their district first. Only the options that deliver there are shown, and one is picked for them: your default if it serves that district, otherwise the first one. Options you haven't narrowed down deliver to every district.
- If no option delivers to a district, the customer sees "We don't deliver to … yet — contact us." and can't place the order.
- A weight-based option is priced on the cart's weight. If the cart is over an option's max weight, that option can't be picked, as long as every product in the cart has a weight or Weight required is on.
- If a cart has nothing that needs shipping, there is no delivery charge.

FAQ
The charge worked out when the order was placed was higher than the one on the customer's screen, for example because the cart changed. The customer is asked to review the order and place it again. They are never charged more than they saw without being asked.
Districts only apply while Ask for district at checkout is on. The switch is at the top of the Delivery Charges page, and also in Weight & Defaults. Until then, every option shows for every shopper.
